UP RERA Introduces Standard Format for Possession Letters

UP RERA Introduces Standard Format for Possession Letters

The Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) has introduced new rules regarding possession letters to simplify the process for flat buyers. Before these changes, possession letters often needed clarification due to complex conditions, leading to disputes. Now, UP RERA has formalised the format for these letters, providing a simple template on their website. This standardisation ensures that all possession letters are clear and easy to understand.

The primary purpose of these letters is to invite buyers to take possession of their flats. Any additional responsibilities mentioned in the letter must be part of the original agreement and legally justified. Buyers should receive their possession letters within two months after a project gets its occupancy or completion certificate (OC/CC). They will also be notified through email, post, and text messages.

The possession letter must provide transparent information about any unfinished work in the flat and the estimated time for completion. Additionally, any letters labelled as demand notices or similar terms will not be considered possession letters. These changes aim to streamline the process of buying flats in Uttar Pradesh, making it more straightforward and transparent for buyers and sellers.
