Aqua Line Metro’s Extension

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has greenlit the extension of the Aqua Line Metro, marking a significant pace towards improving connectivity along the Noida-Greater Noida and Yamuna expressways. This expansion project, estimated at Rs 2,254 crore, will stretch over 11.5 kilometres and encompass eight stations, linking Sector 142 to the Botanical Garden station. This move aims to seamlessly integrate with Delhi Metro’s Blue and Magenta lines, providing commuters direct access to key destinations like IGI Airport and New Delhi Railway Station.

Praising the decision, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) described it as essential for the city’s infrastructure development. Managing Director Lokesh M emphasised that the extension will meet the rising demand for efficient and dependable public transport in Noida and Greater Noida. The new corridor is anticipated to ease the current heavy reliance on taxis, personal vehicles, and two-wheelers along the expressways.

Residents and professionals have long awaited such connectivity, citing the convenience and cost-effectiveness it promises. The proposed stations include the Botanical Garden in Sector 44, the Noida Authority Office in Sector 96, and others strategically located to serve both residential and commercial areas.

However, before construction can begin, final approval from the central government is required, after which the Noida Metro Rail Corporation will proceed with contractor selection. The project timeline estimates a three-year construction period post-approval.

Upon completion, the Aqua Line extension is ready to transform regional transit dynamics, offering seamless travel options and facilitating smoother inter-city connectivity. This development underscores efforts towards sustainable urban mobility and economic growth in the Noida region.
