Noida Authority is Ready to Build a Road along the Noida Expressway
The Noida Authority is trying to build a new 30km road next to the Noida Expressway to make travel easier since NHAI, which usually builds national highways, pulled out due to delays. To make the new road a national highway, the government needs to approve it, which takes time. Last year, the Authority looked into another route starting near Kalindi Kunj barrage and going to the Yamuna Pushta Road, then to the Yamuna Expressway and the airport.
The Authority wanted NHAI to build this important road because traffic on the Noida Expressway will increase a lot when the Noida International Airport starts next year. Lokesh M, the CEO, said a big part of this road is in bad shape and needs government approval to become a national highway, which could take a long time. They are now looking at other options like hiring a private company to build it using the BOT model.
But getting a private company could make the project cost more, especially if they build it as an elevated road, costing around Rs 15,000 crore, and add tolls. The Authority is also thinking about just fixing and widening the Pushta Road to ease traffic from Kalindi Kunj and unclog the Noida Expressway.
The Pushta Road has been open since June 2014, but more work is needed. Building a four-lane road from Sector 137 to 150 might cost about Rs 400 crore. Lokesh M said they are studying different ways and talking to different groups to figure out how to design and build the road together.
In short, the Noida Authority is trying hard to solve traffic problems by considering different ways to build new roads and improve existing ones. They are talking to other groups to find the best way forward.
