Noida to Get Ganga Water Along Expressway by Mid-February
Noida residents along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway are set to receive Ganga water this month, with the Noida Authority completing preparations for an extension of the water supply. The project, which includes the installation of a 5.5 km pipeline from Sector 69 UGR to sectors 137 and 132, is expected to be operational by February 15. This extension is part of a larger 80-cusec Ganga water supply system that already serves 75% of Noida’s population.
Earlier inspections had revealed damage to various sections of the water pipeline network. To address this, the Noida Authority approved a budget of Rs 4.9 crore for repairs. Officials confirmed that the damaged sections have now been fixed, and trial runs are set to begin soon before the pipeline is fully integrated with the main water supply system.
This expansion will benefit several residential sectors along the expressway, including sectors 128, 129, 130, 131, 132, 134, and 135. Lokesh M, the CEO of Noida Authority, stated that residents in these areas would soon have access to clean and reliable water. There are also plans to extend the network further to sectors 150 and 151, either by laying new pipelines or repairing existing infrastructure.
Currently, Noida requires around 406 million liters of water daily. Of this, 240 million liters come from the Upper Ganga Canal, while the remaining supply is sourced from underground sources. To improve water quality, two new Ranney wells are being constructed to blend water with Ganga water before it is supplied to households.
