2024: Record FDI Investment In Indian Real Estate

FDI Investment In Indian Real Estate

The real estate market in India is booming despite intense global economic challenges. A report by JLL shows that $4.8 billion was invested in the first half of 2024. This amount already makes up 81% of the total investments made in the entire year of 2023, which was $5.8 billion.

Compared to last year, the number of deals in H1 2024 doubled. Foreign investors played a significant role, making up 65% of the total investments ($3.1 billion), while domestic investors accounted for 35%. Residential properties were vital, with investments totalling $1.6 billion.

This sector saw a revival, indicating that investors are increasingly interested in homes. In contrast, investments in office spaces, which institutional investors traditionally favoured, decreased this year. The warehousing sector also saw a boost. This sector is growing as online shopping increases demand for storage spaces.

Looking ahead, the report suggests emerging sectors like data centres, life sciences, student housing, and healthcare will attract more investments. Overall, despite global uncertainties, the Indian real estate market remains robust, with promising opportunities for investors.
