Jewar Airport: Connectivity, Completion Date, Updates and Impact On Nearby Regions
Jewar Airport Updates: Connectivity, Completion Timeline & Regional Growth
When a region builds an airport, it is not just building an airport but a whole township. Airports attract companies, logistics centres, hotel chains, IT parks, and major commercial and residential projects due to connectivity options. Keeping these benefits in mind, the Indian government laid the foundation of Jewar Airport in Gautam Buddha Nagar.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the airport on November 26, 2021. The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has allocated 5,100 hectares (around 13,000 acres) for the project.
Zurich Airport International AG has been chosen as the developer. The first phase of the project will cover an area of 12,334 hectares. The airport is expected to begin operations between 2023 and 2024, just before IGI Airport reaches its full capacity.

Jewar Airport is being built under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Initially, there will be two runways by 2024, with future expansions planned to create a large, six-runway airport spread over 7,200 acres.
Jewar Airport Connectivity
The proposed site is well-connected to the NCR region and several districts in western Uttar Pradesh. It is around 30 km from State Highway SH-22A, linking Palwal and Aligarh. The site is also just 700 metres from the Yamuna Expressway, ensuring smooth travel.
On the southern side, there are plans to connect the airport to the upcoming Palwal-Khurja Expressway. Additionally, a 100-metre wide Eastern Peripheral Expressway runs through the Yamuna Expressway near the Formula One Track, connecting the site to Palwal, Manesar, Ghaziabad, Baghpat, and Meerut.

Jewar Airport Impact on Nearby Regions
The Uttar Pradesh government is developing Jewar Airport as a greenfield airport to connect cities like Agra, Mathura, and Gautam Buddh Nagar to the world through the global aviation network. With this development, the region can expect more industrial growth as local industries gain easier access to international markets.
Better air connectivity will also boost tourism by bringing more visitors to popular tourist spots and opening new tourist centres. Additionally, this airport will help reduce the heavy traffic at Delhi's IGI Airport, which is expected to reach its maximum capacity soon.
Jewar Airport Impact on Yamuna Expressway
The most impacted region by Jewar Airport's development is the Yamuna Expressway. The expected huge future footfall has prompted hotel chains, malls, and other businesses to set up operations. Its connectivity is attracting many IT companies and MNCs to establish their units here. Jewar Airport is poised to become the reason for India’s biggest logistics hub.
